Pick Up Dance – Wedding & Slow Dance + Hip Hop Routine Bonus & Others
“Simple, Classy, And Contemporary Wedding Dance That Will Leave You Wishing The Song Would Never End.”
Does this describe your wedding dance situation:
You’re a beginner, have no clue how to dance, and don’t want to trip over your dance partner?
You want to do some turns and dips, but not mess it up?
You want a dance that looks more than just hugging on the dance floor?
(Men) You don’t want to twist or break your future wife’s arm?
(Ladies) You want to throw out your arms with style, just like the pros?
You want to have a memorable, elegant first dance at your wedding?
You want a simple dance that still looks good?
You find ballroom steps too complicated, too difficult, or outdated?
You want to do some of those amazing turn patterns you see on dance shows?
You want to have fun dancing, and maybe even flirt a little?
You want to make a splash at your wedding, perhaps with some surprise hip hop to start the party? |
The good news is that a great first dance is much easier than you think! From teaching numerous couples how to dance for their weddings, I’ve come up with a wedding dance style that is remarkably easy to do AND has a number of eye-popping turns and dance moves. That’s right – It doesn’t have to one or the other! The dance looks great, is fun, AND designed for beginners.
Here’s the reality. Many couples attempt to dance ballroom for their wedding dance. YOU DON’T NEED TO DO THAT! You’re not dancing to impress the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance. You’re dancing to create a natural connection with your partner. You’re dancing to communicate that passion to the audience and each other. When you free yourself from worrying about dance steps, you can start having fun!
“NO Formal Steps. NO Ballroom”
I’ll be honest with you. Ballroom is not the way to go. There is a time an place for dances like the waltz – and that was 300 years ago in a palace somewhere in Europe. Granted, the traditional waltz is a beautiful dance, but for most people, the basic step alone is too complicated and fast. From what I’ve seen, beginners who learn ballroom for their wedding dance struggle with just the starting steps. The resulting dance looks unnatural, stiff, and rigid, with few turn patterns or anything else. You might as well be dancing the robot!
The reality is few people dance just ballroom these days (not even the Queen!) and you don’t have to either, unless your wedding song happens to be The Garland Waltz. Latin, swing, and hip hop are on the rise because they’re more flirty and fun, and these are the elements I infuse into my dance instruction. And to be fair, ballroom has an elegance and classiness to it, which I fully incorporate into the dance styling.
So here’s what I’ve done. I’ve taken out the complicated ballroom steps. I’ve thrown them out. GONE. Your basic step is a simple slow dance step you’ve probably done before: left, right, left, right. That’s it. Just look at the video below – it’s simple, right? Now, you can stop worrying about tripping over each other, and just have fun with the dance. That’s how a wedding dance should be, right?
Without difficult steps to worry about, we’ll focus instead on some easy turn patterns that can be done slowly, and then add some classy styling to make them look great. That’s the secret – most of it is HOW you do the moves, which really involves taking your time doing the dance patterns. Men lead, ladies put the icing on the cake by styling their arms out, doing combs, and more. Best of all, the dance moves are beautiful, fun to dance to, fun to look at, flirty, and of course, easy to do. Aside from dancing the basic step, you don’t even have to worry about rhythm – just dance slowly, and it will look great!
“Easy Steps From A To Dip”
In addition, we’ll work on a few combinations and demos depending on your dance level, ranging anywhere from ultra beginners to intermediate dancers. I recommend you keep it as simple as possible. With all the variations, there are far more moves than you’ll need, but best of all, you guys can try all of them at another time for fun, or to create a little romance at home or out at a social!
The wedding dance I teach is TIMELESS, and it works for most genres of slow dance music out there. Most of you will dance to some classic (and recommended) soft rock/adult contemporary/R&B songs, as in the below list. Of course, if you’ve chosen another style of slow dance music, I also cover styling the dance for folk song, as well as slightly faster rock ballads or R&B tracks. As you can see, the dance bridges time, and is great for slow songs that spans decades:
Ed Sheeran – “Thinking Out Loud”
Ed Sheeran – “Perfect”
Shania Twain – “From This Moment”
Whitney Houston – “I Will Always Love You”
Aerosmith – “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing”
LeAnn Rimes – “How Do I Live”
Kelly Clarkson – “A Moment Like This”
Mariah Carey – “Hero”
Selena – “Dreaming Of You”
Usher – “Burn”
Nat King Cole and Natalie King Cole – “Unforgettable”
Norah Jones – “Don’t Know Why”
Boys Like Girls feat. Taylor Swift – “Two Is Better Than One “
Boyz II Men – “End Of The Road”
I’ve seen plenty of wedding dances, and I can tell you that a couple that is having fun looks much better than a couple trying hard to figure out a complicated dance pattern. Judging from the feedback I’ve received, this is DEFINITELY THE WAY TO GO. Your wedding day will likely be a busy day where events fly past you faster than you can react. Aside from the moment where you exchange your vows, this is probably the only other moment where you two can slow it down a notch and enjoy each other’s company. In fact, a good dance is probably one of the things you won’t have to look back on through pictures to remember.
